Excuse me sir, could I interest you in some god?
Our buddies over at Church Marketing Labs (aka Church Marketing Sucks) have dug up a super neat-o presentation on mixing business and ministry. The CEO of Kanakuk Kamps has posted an interesting presentation on achieving the proper balance between non-profit servitude and tough business moxy.
Some key points for instance on hiring the right people she says, are:
- Build a job description
- Cast a wide net for your search
- Use personality testing as a tool
- Only hire committed believers who meet or exceed the skills required in your job description
- Don’t just hire people that are handy such as friends, spouses or neighbors
These and others are some tough tricks that will test your will at times, but as I have often mentioned, we are called to be as gentle as doves but wise as snakes. I often feel we’ve accomplished something more along the lines of gentle as snakes and wise as a lump of sand.
No matter what your approach to running your ministry, keep Jesus as the center. That’s my advice for the day.
