I’ve been wondering at what to post these last few days. I try never to post for posting sake (that’s dumb), but I try to keep my eye out for valuable insight into God’s revelation to us that I can share in a way that makes sense to today’s modern reader.
You must understand now, that what I share here today is to me the single most important event of all time save for the one that followed it (Christ’s death). I worry over what to post because I don’t want to write only because I think it’s important… I want to share this because it’s THE most important thing in the world.
Many I know don’t believe in God, in Jesus or the “Holy Ghost.” They believe in fate or “science,” but if you think for even a moment that this incredible tale might be true, then you might consider these words from Bono.
“The idea that God, if there is a force of Logic and Love in the universe, that it would seek to explain itself is amazing enough. That it would seek to explain itself and describe itself by becoming a child born in straw poverty, in shit and straw . . . a child . . . I just thought: “Wow!” Just the poetry . . . Unknowable love, unknowable power, describes itself as the most vulnerable. There it was. I was sitting there, and it’s not that it hadn’t struck me before, but tears came streaming down my face, and I saw the genius of this, utter genius of picking a particular point in time and deciding to turn on this.”
What an incredible moment he had. Read the full post Here from Jonathan Dodson at The Resugence.
I’m nursing a wicked cold so I might not be writing with ultimate style. But in this time, leading up to this event, I’m awe struck at the incredible simplicity of it all. We suck. We screwed up once and continue to do it over and over again. We make a mess of the world when left to our own, and it’s not God’s fault. We expect him to fix what we broke over and again stay out of our hair the rest of the time. He wanted us to be able to hang out with him in the garden again, but God can’t have our sin near him so he had to provide a way to clear that up before we could be near him again. It required a sacrifice. It could have been our death he required. God could have said “if you want to be with me, you’ll have to die.” Instead he had His Son be born in a stinky barn, a humiliating and unworthy entrance for a king. He did this because it’s more important for Him to communicate His love and grace to us, than it is to communicate the awesomeness of His power and ultimate wrath for sin.
Merry Christmas all. Remember why we have this holiday. Santa’s cool… reindeer rock… but Jesus is the reason we celebrate. He is our ultimate gift.
Peace
